Preparing baby for their session

Three steps, nothing to buy. This is what I tell every family before a newborn session, written down once and for all: the right timing, the room, and baby's rhythm.

Nothing to fill in, nothing to leave: you click and you have it

The real question

It's not the pose, it's the sleep

"What if he cries the whole session?"

This is the question mothers ask almost every time, and rarely out loud. Behind it there's something else: the fear of ruining a moment that won't come back, with a baby you're still getting to know. The answer fits in one sentence: we don't work against their sleep, we work with it.

Three steps

What gets prepared before the session

Nothing complicated and nothing to do the night before. Just three things, and they all revolve around sleep and comfort.

01

Rest and a feed before the session

  • Feed baby right before: a full baby is more relaxed, and falls asleep more easily during the shoot.
  • Pick the right time: ideally after a nap, or at the hour they usually sleep.
  • Keep the routine as it is: we keep the same rhythm as other days, so as not to disturb them.

A calm baby means a session that flows on its own.

02

Comfortable clothes and a warm room

  • An outfit that's easy to remove: snap-button bodysuits or loose clothes avoid waking baby up when changing them.
  • No visible patterns or logos: this is what keeps the photos soft and timeless.
  • A spare outfit: small accidents happen often, better to be ready.
  • The room between 25 and 28°C: baby will often be undressed during the session, and the room's warmth does half the work.

03

Following baby's rhythm

  • No pressure: every baby is different, we take the time it takes.
  • A settling-in time: some babies need a few minutes to calm down or fall asleep, that's normal.
  • Breaks are part of the plan: feeding, changing, cuddling. The session stops and starts again, that's how it's built.
  • Your calm matters: it passes on to baby, which is why parents are the session's best allies.

My approach fits in three words: listen, respect their rhythm, and lots of gentleness.

The wardrobe

You have nothing to buy

The outfits, headbands and blankets, I bring them myself. They're washed between every session and chosen so they never squeeze a newborn. We look at them together before the day, and you always have the final say.

The day itself

What to have ready at home

The newborn session takes place at your home, in your own light. Here's everything to prepare, and the list stops there.

  • Warm up the room an hour before, between 25 and 28°C.
  • A feed right before I arrive, or while I'm setting up.
  • A snap-button bodysuit and a spare outfit within reach.
  • Wipes and a clean nappy, we almost always need them.
  • A clear space near a window: I work in daylight, no flash.
  • Time ahead of us: we don't watch the clock, the session follows baby.

Everything else, I bring: the outfits, the accessories, the blankets and the backdrops.

And after

The guide prepares the day. The session is something else

If reading this made you want photos like these, there's a session behind it. It takes place at your home, between the first days and three weeks, and we set the date once baby arrives, not months in advance.

Newborn session at home - 280 €. Ten retouched photos, all the equipment brought along, and baby's rhythm decides the rest. If you'd also like to keep the pregnancy and the two-month milestone, the full package is 530 €, with the third session included free. See how it works

Write to me with your due date, I'll tell you when we can plan the session.
